Two Men File First Lawsuits Against The School For Abuse As Minors Under New Victim’s Rights Bill In New Jersey
Survivor to Speak Publicly Tuesday
(Newark, NJ) – Tuesday in Newark, a courageous survivor and attorneys from Jeff Anderson & Associates and Gianforcaro Law will:
- Reveal and discuss lawsuits filed against Chartwell Manor School in Mendham, New Jersey, by two men who were sexually abused as minors by serial abuser Terrence Lynch. The Plaintiffs filed their lawsuits under New Jersey’s new Victim’s Rights Bill. One of the survivors will speak publicly about the lawsuit;
- Reveal and discuss that Lynch sexually abused the Plaintiffs while they were students at Chartwell Manor School and he was headmaster and a teacher at the school. Lynch abused one of the Plaintiffs from approximately 1970-1973, and the other Plaintiff from approximately 1982-1984. The lawsuits include claims of negligence against Chartwell Manor School;
- Reveal and discuss that in 1986, Lynch was indicted on more than 100 counts for sexually abusing 14 minor students in the 1980s at Chartwell Manor School. In 1989, Lynch pleaded guilty to 17 of the counts and served seven years of a 14-year prison sentence before being released in 1997. After being released, Lynch became a volunteer at a Morristown, New Jersey, substance abuse resource center, where he posed as a doctor and sexually assaulted several patients. In 2006, Lynch pleaded guilty to sexually abusing patients at the center and misrepresenting himself as a doctor. Lynch is believed to have died in 2011;
- Discuss New Jersey’s Victim’s Rights Bill, a new law that extends the statute of limitations and provides a two-year window for sexual abuse survivors to bring lawsuits in cases that were previously barred by the statute of limitations, no matter when the abuse occurred or how old the survivor is. The law became effective December 1, 2019;
- Encourage sexual abuse survivors to come forward confidentially under the Victim’s Rights Bill.
