In 2019, Lino Cabrera, a former Los Angeles Unified School District employee at Oxnard Street Elementary School in North Hollywood, was arrested on allegations he sexually abused six minor female students from 2016 to 2019. Cabrera was put on administrative leave and jailed on $850,000 bail.
Following the initial claims of sexual abuse, more survivors who were sexually abused by Cabrera came forward. In 2023, the Los Angeles Unified School District settled a total of $19.9 million with 14 alleged survivors of sexual abuse, with claims dating back to 2012.
Cabrera worked as a teacher’s assistant and managed a computer lab at Oxnard Street Elementary School. According to the school district, he worked at the school for almost a decade, starting in 2010.
