Court Dismisses Lawsuit Without Survivor Response
Earlier today, a sexual assault lawsuit identifying Steven Tyler as a perpetrator was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan. Tyler’s lawyers filed the motion to ask the Court to dismiss the lawsuit in early February but failed to serve it on the survivor as required by court rules to allow the Plaintiff to file an opposition. The Plaintiff, Jeanne Bellino, will ask the Court to reinstate the lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed in November of 2023 under New York City’s Victim of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act — a law that extends the statute of limitations for certain alleged sexual misdeeds, in some cases from decades ago, to finally be heard in court.
