(New Ulm, MN) – Tuesday at the Brown County Courthouse in New Ulm, a bankruptcy hearing is scheduled at 11:00 AM (CT) to approve a joint reorganization plan between sexual abuse survivors and the Diocese of New Ulm.
If the plan is approved, it provides for a payment of over $34 million for sexual abuse survivors and implementation of future child protection protocols in the Diocese of New Ulm. The Diocese previously agreed to the release of the names of credibly accused priests.
“Children today are safer because each of the survivors stood up to voice their truth,” said Attorney Jeff Anderson. “My gratitude goes out to all of the survivors for their courage. Your voices were heard.”
The Diocese filed for bankruptcy protection in March of 2017 after it was named in dozens of lawsuits filed under the Minnesota Child Victims Act.
