Diocese of Buffalo’s Request to Shorten Bankruptcy Claim Deadline Denied

Survivors Still Have Until August 2021 to File Sexual Abuse Claims

(Buffalo, NY) – Today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Western District of New York, Judge Carl Bucki denied the Diocese of Buffalo’s request to shorten the claims bar date for survivors of sexual abuse to file claims in bankruptcy court. The deadline to bring a claim remains the same, August 14, 2021.

“We are tremendously disappointed to once again see the Diocese of Buffalo prioritize self-interest over its responsibility to survivors of sexual abuse,” said attorney Jeff Anderson of Jeff Anderson & Associates. “But we are equally grateful that the Court recognizes just how important it is for survivors of child sexual abuse to have the time and opportunity they need to come forward.”

Jeff Anderson & Associates and the Law Offices of Steve Boyd represent hundreds of survivors of child sexual abuse by clergy in Western New York, including more than 280 survivors in the Diocese of Buffalo.
