Sep 12, 2019: Statement of Attorneys Jeff Anderson and Steve Boyd Regarding Diocese of Rochester Filing Bankruptcy

(Rochester, New York) – The Diocese of Rochester filed bankruptcy this morning after being named as a defendant in dozens of clergy sexual abuse lawsuits filed since New York’s Child Victims Act’s one-year window opened on August 14. “We want to assure the survivors and their family members who have been harmed for so long and have brought claims under the Child Victims Act that this is not the end,” Boyd said. “This will not stop us or the survivors and we know there are battles to be fought.”

(New York, NY) –The law firm of Jeff Anderson & Associates released information identifying the incorrect individual as being subject to allegations of child sex abuse. The Anderson Report on Sexual Abuse in the Diocese of Brooklyn released on September 10, 2019, incorrectly and erroneously identified Sr. Kathleen McKinney CSJ, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, as being subject to allegations of abuse.

Jeffrey Nowak, a diocesan priest.

Aug 26, 2019: Minnesota Attorney General Given Permission to File Papers Seeking Release of Secret Perversion Files

(St. Paul, MN) – A Minnesota court issued an Order granting the Minnesota Attorney General permission to file a memorandum supporting the release of more than 1,500 Boy Scout Perversion files. Ramsey County District Court Judge Leonardo Castro, noting that “The Attorney General is responsible for protecting the public interest and advocating in favor of the public good,” issued an Order allowing the Attorney General to file an amicus curiae memorandum supporting efforts in a Minnesota case seeking the public release of the Perversion Files.

Aug 20, 2019: Minnesota Attorney General Files Motion to Support Public Release of 1500 Perversion Files From Boy Scouts

(St. Paul, MN) – Today, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office filed a motion to support the public release of over 1500 Boy Scout perversion files. At a hearing on August 6, 2019 in St. Paul, the law firm of Jeff Anderson & Associates, representing a survivor of childhood sexual abuse by a Boy Scout leader, sought the public release of 1,538 secret Boy Scouts files on leaders with allegations of sexual misconduct against children.

Aug 05, 2019: Court Hearing on Boy Scouts’ Attempts to Hide Identification of Offenders in Perversion Files

(St. Paul, MN) – Lawyers representing a survivor of childhood sexual abuse by a Boy Scout leader are seeking the public release of 1,538 secret Boy Scouts files on leaders with allegations of sexual misconduct against children. Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has refused to make public the perpetrator names and documents contained in these files, known as Perversion Files.

Jul 17, 2019: Clergy Sexual Abuse Survivors Reach Settlement With Diocese of Crookston

Fifteen survivors of child sexual abuse by priests in the Diocese of Crookston have settled their lawsuits against the Diocese. In addition to receiving compensation, the 15 survivors compelled the Diocese of Crookston to be more transparent through non-economic settlement provisions. As part of the settlement, the names and secret files of clergy accused of sexually abusing children in the Diocese of Crookston will be made public at a later date. In addition, depositions taken in the litigation of clergy child sex abuse cases against the Diocese will be made public.

Jun 26, 2019: Settlement Reached in the Diocese of New Ulm Bankruptcy Case

(New Ulm, MN) – A settlement has been reached in the Diocese of New Ulm bankruptcy case, which involves 93 claimants who were sexually abused as children by clergy and others in the Diocese.The Diocese and the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors (“Creditors Committee”), comprised of clergy sexual abuse survivors, have reached an agreement in principle toward a resolution of the bankruptcy. The settlement calls for payment of approximately $34 million to the 93 sexual abuse claimants. The Diocese previously agreed to the release of names of credibly accused priests.
