Sexual Abuse in New York Schools and Institutions

Jeff Anderson & Associates represents individuals who have been sexually abused as students in public, religious, and private schools and other educational institutions by teachers, coaches or staff. Most notably, we have represented survivors in sexual abuse cases against Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis; Jerry Sandusky at Penn State; John Wangberg at Central Elementary School in Brainerd (MN); and Yeshiva University High School for Boys (NY). If you or someone you know was sexually abused at any time in a public or private school in New York we can help you find justice. Contact us today. New York Schools with Accused Teachers, Coaches, or Staff

Horace Mann School (Bronx)
In 2015 an alumni-led report suggested that the top-tier private school, Horace Mann, was an insulated institution of systemic abuse and secrecy for decades (1960s – 1990s). The report details more than 20 perpetrators – including teachers, coaches, administrators, department heads, and a headmaster – molesting at least 60 students across nearly forty years.

Riverdale Country School (Bronx)
In 2012, Richard Hovan, a geometry and calculus teacher at the prestigious Riverdale Country School, was arrested for raping a 16-year-old female student and convicted as a level-two sex offender.

Poly Prep Country Day School (Brooklyn)
From the late 60s to the early 90s this elite high school’s varsity football coach, Phillip Foglietta, targeted, groomed and sexually abused numerous high school students with impunity.

Loyola School (Upper East Side) & St. Bernard’s School Manhattan)
For years Loyola School—a small, Jesuit-run co-ed college prep high school—was home to respected teacher and basketball coach Louis Tambini, who was credibly accused of molesting seven girls in the 70s and 80s. According to news sources, the initial allegations of this abuse were brought in 1982 but were covered up by administrators. Following the allegations, Tambini was let go and began teaching at St. Barnard’s, a private all-boys K-9 school. See our archived press event for more details.

Xavier High School (Manhattan)
According to an official list released by the Society of Jesus in January of 2019, the following are priests credibly accused of sexual abuse and have taught at the Jesuit-run, all-boys school between 1946 and 2002: Cornelius Carr, Thomas Denny, Raymond Fullam, John Garvey, James Kuntz, Keith Picklers, William Scanlon, and Joseph Towle.
