Helping Child Sexual Abuse Survivors of Chartwell Manor Preparatory School

If you were sexually abused by a teacher, coach, staff, or trusted adult at Chartwell or any other New Jersey school, we want to help you. It’s time to take your power back.

Headmaster Terry Lynch & a Culture of Abuse and Secrecy

In 1986, Chartwell Manor Headmaster and teacher Terry Lynch (Terence Michael Lynch) was indicted on more than 100 counts of sexually abusing 14 minor students since 1980. Home to a culture of abuse and secrecy, the Mendham Township institution allowed perpetrators to abuse students unchecked for years. Other accused staff members include Peter Ahlers and Pamela Lamar. Chartwell Manor Preparatory School is now defunct.

In 1989, Lynch pleaded guilty to 17 counts of child sexual abuse and served seven years of a 14-year prison sentence. In 1997, he was released from prison. Lynch remained in New Jersey, and, fraudulently posing as a doctor, secured a volunteer position at the Beginnings Drug and Alcohol Program in Morristown where he was able to sexually assault multiple patients. In 2006, Lynch pleaded guilty to sexually abusing patients at the center and misrepresenting himself as a doctor. Lynch is believed to have died in 2011.
