Helping California Survivors of Sexual Abuse at Mt. Carmel High School
If you were abused by a teacher, coach, staff member, or trusted adult at Mt. Carmel High School or any other California school, we want to help you
Mt. Carmel High School is a public high school located in Rancho Peñasquitos. The school is part of the Poway Unified School District and its mascot is the Sundevil. In 1999, the movie Bring It On filmed on the campus, with the locker room, weight room and football scoreboard making it into the film.
Mt. Carmel High School has recently been in the news due to a serious case involving sexual abuse. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Stacy Michelle Walker, a former teacher at Mt. Carmel, was arrested and charged with 17 felonies for what a prosecutor called “a highly inappropriate relationship” that began when the victim was 15 years old and continued until 2020, when the girl was 18. In August 2024, Walker was sentenced to three years in prison. This case has raised significant concerns about the safety of students and the effectiveness of oversight within the school.
