“It’s important to get this truth out there,” said survivor Joseph Caramanno, one of the four courageous survivors featured in the piece. Caramanno first spoke out publicly about his abuse by Paddack at a press conference in June 2019, where he discussed the abuse he suffered as a student at St. Joseph by the Sea High School (Staten Island), where Paddack was assigned from 1999 to 2003. “It’s a shame we still have to keep doing this – telling this same story – after all this time,” he said.

The piece also features interviews with attorneys Jeff Anderson and Mike Reck, whose law firm Jeff Anderson & Associates represents 10 of the 11 known survivors of alleged child sexual abuse by Msgr. Paddack, who is believed to still be in ministry.

“The recognition by the Emmys underscores the burning public safety need for this institution to finally protect children and not its perpetrators or its reputation,” said Reck in response to the nomination. “At every juncture when the Archdiocese of New York and Cardinal Dolan could have – and should have – done the right thing, they chose not to. We have immense admiration for the hard work and diligence shown by these investigative journalists who valued above all, Truth.”
