Fr. Michael F. (P.) Hurley was ordained in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1945, Fr. Hurley was accused of sexually abusing a minor in or about the 1940s while he was working in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Fr. Hurley reportedly left the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1955 and went on to work in the Diocese of El Paso, the Diocese of Tucson, and the Diocese of Phoenix. In 2018. Fr. Hurley was named on the list of “Archdiocese of New Orleans clergy who are deceased and who admitted or have been publicly accused of sexually abusing a minor.” In 2019, Fr. Hurley was named on the on the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s list “The individuals identified below served the Archdiocese of New Orleans in the territory which later became the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and the Archdiocese of New Orleans has publicly identified them in the manner shown below as either (i) alive and have been accused of sexually abusing a minor which led to their removal from ministry or (ii) deceased and who admitted or have been publicly accused of sexually abusing a minor.”
