Georgene Stuppy: Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Sister Georgene Stuppy served as a nun in Rochester and Austin, Minnesota from the 1960s through the 2000s. She made her profession of vows in 1961 after entering the Sisters of St. Francis in 1958 from Our Lady of Grace Parish in Edina, Minnesota.

In 1992 a woman filed a lawsuit against Sister Stuppy, claiming the nun had sexually abused her from 1978 through 1981 when she was a teenager. Sister Stuppy admitted to the physical contact alleged by her victim, but claimed it was spiritual rather than sexual in nature. The suit was settled in 1993, but Sister Stuppy continued to serve in various capacities at Assisi Heights in Rochester, Minnesota. Sister Stuppy died May 23, 2009 at Assisi Heights.
