Fr. Ruben Martinez is a member of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate religious order. Fr. Martinez has been of sexually abusing at least seven people. He has been named in at least eight civil lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse. The alleged sexual abuse occurred at St. Ferdinand, Holy Family, and Mary Immaculate with dates of abuse ranging from approximately 1970 to 1982. In 1991, Fr. Martinez was sent to Servants of the Paraclete in Jemez Springs, New Mexico, an institution known for treating priests accused of child sexual abuse. In 1993, Fr. Martinez was removed from active ministry. In 2005, he admitted to abusing as many as 100 boys, including his younger brother. As of 2006, Fr. Martinez was reportedly living at a Catholic center for troubled clergy in Missouri. As of 2013, Fr. Martinez was believed to be living at a Catholic center in Missouri or Oakland. Fr. Martinez was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. Fr. Martinez’s current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
