Richard Rick Boyd: Credible Claims of Sexual Abuse of a Minor

Richard Rick Boyd

In 1984, while serving as associate pastor in the Diocese of Crookston, Father Richard “Rick” Boyd was convicted of possessing magazines that contained child pornography. He was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to complete six months of therapy. For the next two decades, Father Boyd spent time serving as pastor of three parishes in Crookston, MN.

In 2003, police investigated Father Boyd and found adult pornography on a website he had built. Father Boyd took an indefinite leave of absence and resigned in 2003 claiming the 1984 conviction “destroyed his credibility” and spent the next two years studying canon law at The Catholic University of America. Fr. Boyd was subsequently laicized and has appealed the dismissal.

As of 2007, Father Richard Boyd was living with friends in Minnesota, awaiting response from the Vatican.
