Pirmin Wendt, OSB
Father Pirmin Wendt was born in 1898 in West Union, Minnesota and ordained on June 1, 1924. Father Wendt was listed in the official Ordo directory at St. John’s Abbey from 1950 through 1983. Father Wendt was named in a March 2011 settlement with St. John’s resulting from claims in which “credible allegations of sexual abuse, exploitation or misconduct [were] brought” by nine plaintiffs.
On December 19, 2013, St. John’s Abbey released a list of clergy members who have been credibly accused of child sexual abuse. The St. John’s list included Father Wendt’s name. Our investigation shows that Father Wendt worked at the following parishes:
- 1927-1945: St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, MN
- 1946-1949: St. Bernard’s Church, St. Paul, MN
- 1950-1964: St. Josephs, Minneapolis, MN
- 1965-1978: St. Boniface, Minneapolis, MN
- 1979-1982: St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, MN
- 1982: Died
Father Wendt died on August 15, 1982, at the age of 84. Wendt was also known as Father Pirminius Wendt, Father Georgius Wendt, and Father George Wendt.
