Notes: Fr. Joseph Fertal was involved in at least one civil suit and was criminally investigated in connection with allegations of child sexual abuse. Fr. Fertal was purportedly sent to St. Michael’s Institute, an institution known for treating priests accused of child sexual abuse, multiple times beginning in the 1980s. According to the Diocese of San Bernardino, Fr. Fertal was permanently banned from ministry in the Diocese. Fr. Fertal was included in the Diocese of San Bernardino’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. He was believed to be residing in Jemez Springs, New Mexico as of 2003. Fr. Fertal’s current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
