Fr. Othmar Hohmann became a monk of the Order of St. Benedict in approximately 1926 and later was ordained a Benedictine priest. In 2016, Fr. Hohmann was named in a civil lawsuit that accused him of sexually abusing a minor girl from approximately 1961 to 1966 while he worked at St. Joseph’s in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Fr. Hohmann was named on the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis’ “Disclosures regarding clergy sexual abuse of minors” in the section “Individuals with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor outside of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis” In 2013, Fr. Hohmann was included on Saint John’s Abbey’s list of “Current and Former Monks Likely to Have Offended Against Minors.” Fr. Hohmann was also included on the Diocese of Duluth’s list of “Clergy with credible claims against them concerning sexual abuse of a young person” and the Diocese of St. Cloud’s “List of clergy likely to have abused minors.” Fr. Hohmann’s status as a priest, whereabouts, and whether he had access to children from 1977 until his death in 1980 are unknown.
