Br. Bernard Pleimann, S.M., a member of the Marianist Fathers Order, spent much of his early career teaching in Hawaii. According to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, at least one survivor has come forward alleging child sexual abuse by Br. Pleimann, in approximately 1963, while he worked at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California. His personnel file was released by the order in 2013. Br. Pleimann’s file shows he took perpetual vows in 1940 and was dispensed from his vows in 1973 while teaching in Japan. He has been named in at least one civil lawsuit. Br. Pleimann died in June 1986 and was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors.
