Msgr. Benjamin Hawkes held several administrative positions within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles after leaving his position as an accountant for Lockheed Aircraft in 1950 to become a priest. While living at the Archbishop’s Residence, he held the following positions: Vicar General, Secretary, Chancellor, Archdiocesan Consultor, member of the Seminary Committee, member of the Building Commission, member of the Archdiocesan Advisory Board of Education, member of the Cemeteries Board, and member of the Priest Relief Association. In 1995, Msgr. Hawkes was accused of sexually abusing two boys from 1973 to 1985. Both victims’ claims were settled. Msgr. Hawkes was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors.
