Fr. Jorge Washington Cordova Hernandez was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Quito, Ecuador. He worked  within the Diocese of Phoenix from approximately 1989 to 1994. In 2005, Fr. Cordova Hernandez was charged with ten counts of sexual abuse involving two female minors during his assignment at St. Francis of Assisi in Yuma, Arizona. The alleged child sexual abuse occurred from approximately 1988 to 1991. Following the charges, it is believed that Fr. Cordova Hernandez fled to Ecuador and then to Spain. He was detained by U.S. authorities in Spain, however, authorities were purportedly unable to extradite him due to the age of the crime. Fr. Cordova Hernandez was named on the Diocese of Phoenix’s list of “Names of priests and deacons from other dioceses who may no longer serve in the Diocese of Phoenix due to an accusation of sexual misconduct with a minor.” Fr. Cordova Hernandez was also included in the Diocese of Tucson’s “List of Clergy and other Church Personnel Identified by the Diocese of Tucson with Assignments, Employment or Ministry Service in the Diocese about Whom the Diocese Is Aware of Credible Allegations of Sexual Misconduct Involving a Minor.” Fr. Cordova Hernandez is believed to be living in Ecuador. His status as a priest and whether he has access to children are unknown.
