William D. Curtis: Accused of Child Sexual Abuse

On October 7, 2014 the priest file of Father William Curtis was released to the public. Along with Curtis’ file, the files of thirteen other priests with credible allegations of sexual abuse in the Diocese of Winona were also released. The files were obtained as part of the Doe 1 v. Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and the Diocese of Winona civil lawsuit filed in Ramsey County in May 2013. The lawsuit was made possible due to the Child Victims Act passed by the Minnesota legislature.

Father William D. Curtis was identified by the Diocese of Winona on December 16, 2013, as a priest with credible allegations of child sexual abuse. Curtis’ identity was released as part of court order in the Doe 1 civil case after the Diocese of Winona was ordered to publicly release the names of priests that were included in the study.

According to the court documents filed December 16, 2013 by the Diocese of Winona, Father William D. Curtis was ordained on May 3, 1947 and worked at the following parishes:

· September 1, 1950 – Saint John, Rochester, MN

· August 5, 1952 – May 15, 1953 – Saint Lawrence O’Toole, Fountain, MN and Saint Kilian, Wykoff, MN

· April 2, 1956 – Saint Lawrence O’Toole, Fountain, MN and Saint Kilian, Wykoff, MN

· October 30, 1958 – Saint Joseph, Jasper, MN

· July 28, 1965 – Saint Peter, Hokah, MN

· March 15, 1966 – Sacred Heart, Brewster, MN

· March 15, 1966 – Worthington Junior College, Worthington, MN

· August 21, 1968 – Saint Theodore, Albert Lean, MN

· January 28, 1976 – Saint Teresa, Mapleton, MN

· June 28, 1984 – Saint Joseph, Good Thunder, MN

· Ministerial Status: Ministerial privileges suspended July, 1990
