Robert B. McGovern: Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Robert B. McGovern

In 2005, Br. Robert B. McGovern of the Archdiocese of New York was named in a lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse. He allegedly abused a boy in New Jersey at some point after 1975.

Br. Robert B. McGovern was born on May 17, 1944, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and attended Iona College and Manhattan College. Br. McGovern entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers on July 5, 1962, and pronounced his final vows on June 27, 1969. He worked at All Hallows High School in the Bronx, New York; Blessed Sacrament High School; St. John’s Indian Mission; Essex Catholic High School; St. Mary’s Parish, Louisiana; Rice High School; Our Lady of Assumption Parish, the Bronx, New York; Holy Child School, Mississippi. Br. McGovern also worked as Superior at All Hallows and as Director of Pastoral Care at St. Joseph’s Residence in New Rochelle, New York. He died in Chicago on October 12, 2016.
