In July 2012, Br. James A. Liguori, a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, was named in a lawsuit brought by a survivor of child sexual abuse. Br. Liguori was working at Cardinal Farley Military Academy in Rhinebeck, New York, when he allegedly sexually abused the survivor in approximately 1969. The survivor reported the abuse to the Diocese of Orange in 2008, but the Irish Christian Brothers found the allegation “without merit” and took no action against Br. Liguori.
Br. James A. Liguori held the following positions: principal of Rice High School in Harlem, New York; headmaster of Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, New York; associate superintendent of schools in the Archdiocese of New York; and superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Newark. For seventeen years, Br. Liguori worked at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, as the executive vice president and, later, the president. In 2011, he retired from Iona College and began working as associate vice president and executive director at Fordham University’s Westchester campus. He resigned from Fordham University after the civil lawsuit was filed against him in 2012. Br. Liguori is believed to be residing in New Rochelle, New York.
