Law Firm and Survivor to Release Documents and Depositions Demonstrating Reckless Choices By Bishop Hoeppner, Currently Under Vatican Investigation

– At a press conference today in St. Paul, sexual abuse survivor and former diaconate candidate Ron Vasek, along with his attorneys and another survivor, will:

  • Reveal never-before seen documents from the files of several clergy sexual offenders in the Diocese of Crookston;
  • Reveal video testimony excerpts of Bishop Michael Hoeppner, the presiding bishop in the Diocese of Crookston, who made conscious choices to leave sexual offenders in ministry and who is the subject of a current Vatican investigation;
  • Release deposition transcripts of top officials in the Diocese of Crookston, including Bishop Hoeppner, Vicar General Michael Foltz, and former Vicar General Monsignor Rodger Grundhaus;
  • Release secret documents from files excavated in litigation and released under settlement between the Diocese of Crookston and 15 survivors;
  • Discuss the non-economic settlement terms reached by 15 courageous survivors who fought for years under the Minnesota Child Victims Act and under which the depositions and documents are being made public;
  • The depositions and secret documents have been provided to Archbishop Bernard Hebda of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis as part of the Archbishop’s investigation into Bishop Hoeppner.
