WHAT: At a news conference Thursday in Philadelphia, sexual abuse survivors, attorneys and advocates will:
• Announce the filing of a lawsuit naming the Pennsylvania Catholic Bishops for concealing the known histories and identities from the public, parishioners and law enforcement, of clergy accused of sexually abusing children; • Two survivors abused by priests in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will speak publicly for the first time about why they filed this lawsuit and will identify their perpetrators who were both named in the 2005 Philadelphia grand jury report; • Request the court to require all dioceses in Pennsylvania to release the names of all clergy offenders who have sexually abused children and the files pertaining to how top officials in each diocese handled cases of child sexual abuse. • Challenge Archbishop Charles Chaput for his rigorous opposition to statute of limitations reform in Pennsylvania and across the country; • Challenge the Pennsylvania Catholic Bishops for their adherence to secrecy and lack of transparency; • Discuss the IRRP compensation program announced by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and how it can help a select group of survivors but does not advance the protection of a single child.
