Clergy Sexual Abuse in the Diocese of Saint Cloud
Diocese of Saint Cloud Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
In March, 2018 under pressure from dozens of sexual abuse lawsuits, the Diocese announced publicly that it would take this step and file bankruptcy. Since then sexual abuse survivors and the Diocese of St. Cloud worked together to reach a framework for a $22.5 million agreement to compensate survivors of child sexual abuse by clergy and employees of the Diocese. At the time of filing there were more than 70 pending lawsuits against the Diocese. The Diocese was the 26th Catholic Diocese or Religious Order to file for bankruptcy protection in the United States.
On June 15, 2020, the the Diocese of St. Cloud filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Minnesota. The “bar date,” or deadline for survivors to submit proofs of claim, was set for October 21, 2020. All claims must be filed by this date. Please visit our Chapter 11 bankruptcy FAQ page for more details about this process.

Saint Cloud Clergy Accused of Sexual Abuse
For years we have been compiling lists of priests accused of sexual abuse across the country, including those at Saint John’s Abbey and in the Order of Saint Benedict (OSB). We share this list here to help survivors more easily identify their perpetrators, keep Minnesota children and communities safer, and lift the veil of secrecy that protects predators within the priesthood.
