The Archdiocese of Philadelphia serves a Catholic population of nearly 1.3 million and consists of 217 parishes, 11 colleges and universities, 17 high schools, 19 elementary schools, and four special needs schools.
In August 2018, six of the eight Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania were included in a grand jury report detailing the sexual abuse of over 1,000 children over the course of 70 years by more than 300 predator priests. In the report, the Grand Jury brings to light the wholesale institutional failure of the dioceses of Pennsylvania and their maintenance of an unholy wall of silence that endangered the welfare of children. Although the Archdiocese of Philadelphia was not included in this report, nearly 150 priests within the Archdiocese have been publicly accused of sexual misconduct. A similar compensation programs was offered by some of the Catholic dioceses in New York and while the programs may be helpful to a select group of sexual abuse survivors, the only true measure of justice for survivors of child sexual abuse is to reform the laws across this country. Clergy Accused of Child Sexual Abuse in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
The list below contain the names of clergy who were assigned within or working in the Pennsylvania Archdiocese of Philadelphia who have been accused of sexual misconduct. While lawsuits were filed involving many of these alleged perpetrators, the vast majority of the claims against these individuals have been settled or have not been fully evaluated in a civil or criminal court. Accordingly, the allegations should be considered just allegations and should not be considered proved or substantiated in a court of law.
