Philadelphia Archdiocese Suspend Priests But do not Release Names

The news from Philadelphia today is that Cardinal Justin Rigali has suspended two additional priests because of credible allegations that they have engaged in sexual abuse of children.  If that isn’t sad enough, the Cardinal’s refusal to name the suspected priests is an incredible affront to the community and its concern for the safety of children.  If they can’t work as priests, why is it okay for them to live unidentified in their communities?  Recently the Archdiocese pledged to be more sensitive to its responsibility to be honest and forthcoming when dealing with the issue of Clergy abuse.  This is not a good start.

Two more priests placed on leave

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced today that two retired priests have been placed on administrative leave while it reviews allegations that they have engaged in inappropriate behavior with minors.

Donna Farrell, spokeswoman for the archdiocese, declined to name the two.
