In 1982, a 17-year-old young man accused Doyle of making passes at him. Doyle claimed the situation was misinterpreted but that he knew he used extremely poor judgment in letting the young man sleep over. Doyle was sent for counseling and concerns were raised about his drinking.
In 1983, Doyle’s family members continued to raise concerns about Doyle’s drinking and he remained in counseling. The counselor did not think he needed further evaluation.
In October 1992, this report from ten years prior was raised again. The vicar checked the files and recounted the facts from 1982, namely that Doyle had denied it, the young man was listened to but that nothing further was done.
In March, 1995, a report of sexual abuse by Doyle was filed stating the abuse had occurred in 1977, when the individual was 14 to 17-years-old. In June, 1995, Doyle resigned as pastor and was placed on leave of absence.
In September,1995, consideration was given whether or not Doyle would be able to return to some restricted form of ministry. In November, 1995, Doyle’s temporary leave was made permanent and he began the laicization process and arrangements were made for a severance package.
In May, 1996, the petition and file for voluntary laicization was sent to the Vatican. Doyle was laicized later that year.
Doyle died in June, 2010.
